A Gold Coast footpath scaffold needs a City permit first. How long does it take?
By Artigellence ·
A scaffold, gantry or hoarding over a Gold Coast footpath needs a City of Gold Coast permit under Local Law 11, and the City lists 10 business days for a partial interference with the road reserve. The spalling page covers each step, and the Concrete cancer repair costs and rules check lists the fees with their sources.

What the City says
The City of Gold Coast's page on temporary road closures says the City issues a permit under Local Law 11 for works or activities that interfere with road operations, including full or partial road closures. Installing a structure in, on, across or over a road, such as a gantry or hoarding, is on its list.
For a partial interference with the road reserve the page lists 10 business days. A site plan showing the works and the pedestrian access that remains is what the City asks to see, and it says that may be enough for a minor impact on a verge or footpath as long as access for strollers and mobility devices is kept.
What the fees are
The City's Register of Fees and Charges for 2026-27 lists an application fee of A$208.00 for a low-impact permit, which covers a verge or footpath. Where occupying the verge runs past four weeks, the register charges A$13.00 per square metre per month, or part of a month, for the time beyond four weeks. Each line says the fee can be nil where eligibility conditions apply.
What the City weighs
The page says applications are assessed on location and lists public transport services and City projects among the considerations. On the Gold Coast that matters near the light rail and in Surfers Paradise, where the City's own revitalisation project is under way.
What to ask the provider
Ask whether the permit, its fee and the time the City takes are in the quote, and who lodges the application. A repair that cannot start until a permit issues is a repair whose start date is the City's, not the provider's.
What could change
Fees are set in a register for each financial year, and this one is for 2026-27. Read the City's current page before you rely on any figure here.
